New Delhi: A day after a shootout in broad day light in Uttar Pradesh, a minister has said that even God could not control crime in the state. Minister for Stamp, Court Fees and Registration Durga Prasad Yadav said, "Crime keeps on happening. Even God cannot stop it. Strict action needs be taken against the culprits."

Six gunmen had attacked a Samajwadi Party worker in broad daylight outside a market in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The incident left four people including an eight-year-old boy critically injured.

The incident occurred on Monday when six armed men on two bikes opened fire in a busy street. Their target was Pappu Nishaad, a local leader associated with the Samajwadi Party. The shooters then chased Nishad into a crowded store.

The police called it a gang war sparked by political rivalry.
