Exam Spl: Dealing with Math phobia

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Wrong answer, another wrong answer and a big fat zero!

"How could I have done so badly in Math?" That's what Rahul Madan, a class XII is thinking, staring at his 46 out of 100 in Math in his pre-board exams.

Rahul is also discovering that the only thing he can count correctly these days are the marks he lost.

"I forget everything. I study till 4 AM and when I write my exam, I just can't get marks. I'm so scared of Math. I'm not even studying any other subject and still I can't score," says he.

Rahul is a Math-phobic. Numbers mockingly dance in his head and figuring out theorems has him going round in circles.

Says an APJ school, Math teacher, Sangeeta Rana, "There is no need to feel scared. The need is to be systematic. Lots of children feel they should only practice hard questions. Don't do that. Practice the sample papers and you will do well."

Students who scored above 90 per cent in Math in the board exam last year suggest students study intelligently and they will score.

The say that students should simply study from the NCERT book as other books will only serve to confuse.

And if you are still feeling bad about not being able to crack the paper, cheer up because even a genius like Albert Einstein said, "Do not worry too much about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you that mine are still greater."
