Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Peerzada Muhammad Sayeed has submitted his resignation to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Sayeed was accused of using "unfair means" to help his son pass the matriculation examination.
Sayeed's son also scored a distinction in his Class XII exam, something which protestors and the Opposition said, was highly suspicious and demanded his resignation.
"I have resigned from the council of ministers. I have forwarded my resignation to the party high command", Sayeed said.
"It is their decision now to decide on it. I do not want to create problems for the party", Sayeed said.
"As far as my statement to the media is concerned, I will call a press conference in a day or two and reveal all facts before the media", he added.
The Jammu and Kashmir crime branch report said that there was prima facie evidence to show the involvement of officials of both the Board and Education department.
The report also pointed out that Sayeed's son was helped in his exams in more than two subjects in the 2009 class 10th board exams.
It also stated that a senior education officer even wrote his Urdu and Maths paper.
Shockingly, the report also revealed that just before the exams, the Board even facilitated his migration from one school to another so that a favourable centre could be assigned to him.
