New Delhi: The arrested alleged conman Ashok Jadeja, who is wanted in six states for duping more than 300 people to the tune of over Rs 1000 crore, told CNN-IBN in an exclusive interview how his racket worked.
Self-proclaimed godman Jadeja and his wife Neetu were arrested with Rs 1.98 crore in cash in their possession on June 1 in Ahmedabad after a complaint was filed by some members of the Sansi community against him in Rajasthan.
Here is the excerpt of the interview -
CNN-IBN: How did you manage to dupe 317 residents of Rs 1.93 crore?
Ashok Jadeja: We had a multi level marketing scheme of Rs 200 per head. People deposited money under that scheme. We told them that the money is not refundable. But still they chose to invest. So it is not our fault. We did our marketing right outside a temple, so people believed it had religious links.
CNN-IBN: How many agents did you hire? How much money did you collect?
Ashok Jadeja: We had around 17-18 agents. All transactions and money collection was done by the agents.
CNN-IBN: If you had so much money why didn’t you run away with it?
Ashok Jadeja: I am not responsible. The people were told the money is non-refundable. I am not liable to the families who have lost the money. All the work was done by my agents. I had nothing to do with this. Whatever money I had, I surrendered. I went to strike a compromise with the complainants. He demanded Rs 200 crore from me.
CNN-IBN: How much did the complainants demand?
Ashok Jadeja: They demanded around Rs 200 crore.
