New Delhi: Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday pitched himself for a ministerial berth, saying he had been in the state for “long enough”.
“If I am given an opportunity to serve I will do so with zeal, honesty and integrity. If I am assuming I am not there even then I will do whatever duty is assigned to me,” Singh told CNN-IBN’s Bhupendra Chaubey.
“I have been in Himachal for long enough. It is for a change of scene that I have come to the Centre. I would like to serve the Centre. I think my experience as Chief Minister would be very useful for running any ministry at the Central government,” said Singh, who is the lone Congress MP from his state.
“I personally think representation should be given to all parts of the country,” said Singh when he asked to comment on a view within the Congress party that ministries should be given to party leaders depending on party’s strength in their states.
The oath-taking of the second lot of ministers in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's team was put off and is expected to take place Thursday as the Congress tried to cope with the lobbying by ministerial aspirants in the party.
Sources said that at least 10 cabinet ministers and over 40 ministers of state, some with independent charge, were expected to take oath of office.
