Bangalore: A wedding went terribly wrong when an ex-girlfriend of the groom stormed into his wedding hall to stop the marriage. Priyanka, a 23-year-old MBA student accused Anand of breach of promise.
She claimed she was two months pregnant and Anand was getting married to another girl for dowry.
She barged into the wedding hall with her friend. They were in turn attacked by the Anand's relatives for disrupting the ceremony. His parents dragged her away, even as the drama unfolded in front of the local media.
"He told me his family wont agree to our marriage as I'm from a schedule caste and if I'm pregnant, it will be easier to convince the family. He later told me he was engaged to another girl but if I could give Rs 10 lakh as dowry like the other girl, he would marry me," said Priyanka.
Priyanka says she had complained to the local police 15 days before the wedding, but it was to no avail.
"She wanted the police to prevent the marriage. But we have no powers in this case, as there was no marriage. If it was a second marriage we could prevent it. Now she has filed a case of forced sex and cheating. We have registered a case," said City Police Commissioner, Shankar Bidari.
"The commissioner says he is helpless but I say the police is toothless. If there is no provision in law, let him propose changes in the law," lawyer and former head, Women's Commission, Premila Nesargi.
It was drama-filled wedding, but Priyanka's case remains unchanged despite all she has done.
