New Delhi: Indian Hockey Federation President KPS Gill may have refused to resign after Indian hockey team failed to qualify for Olympics for the first time in 80 years but that hasn't halted attempts by former players to end his reign.

Former Olympian and Member of Parliament (MP) Aslam Sher Khan has collected 100 signatures from his fellow MPs in a petition asking for Gill's removal. Khan spoke to CNN-IBN on the campaign.

"It is a being done as Parliament is supreme and it represents the will of the country. The emotions of the country are reflected in Parliament. If this thing were done at players' level then maybe it would have been suppressed, as KPS Gill is an influential man. But no one is above the country or Parliament. If Parliament takes note, then the association will be compelled to take some action," Khan said

Divya Manu Chaudhary: Sir, you say that you will build up the pressure. You have asked the Prime Minister for time. So what are you expectations?

Aslam Sher Khan: We expect that we will have more people supporting us before Parliament recess. We will try to submit to the memorandum before this session ends.

Divya Manu Chaudhary: Are you confident that there will be enough pressure on KPS Gill to resign?

Aslam Sher Khan: He is already under pressure to quit. Now he must be told in clear terms to leave. If there is not much on KPS Gill then the authorities above him will be asked to put more pressure on him. Gill is not above everyone.

Divya Manu Chaudhary: As former captain of Indian hockey team, how do you feel when you see the state of Indian hockey?

Aslam Sher Khan: The situation is pathetic. The game has changed. In our days it was played on grass and people used to play it in streets just like they play cricket now. It has also become an expensive game. Artificial surface and maintenance costs are very high. If the Government of India can spent about Rs 500 crore and provide the infrastructure, then in the next four years, we will be at the top once again.
