New Delhi: Former Pakistan Human Rights Minister Ansar Burney was deported on arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
According to sources, Burney – who was flying in to Delhi from Dubai – was put on a flight back to Dubai upon instructions from the Union Home Ministry.
Burney was scheduled to attend a human rights conference in Delhi. He told CNN-IBN shortly before being deported that he was shocked at the developments.
According to CNN-IBN Foreign Affairs Editor, Surya Gangadharan, the move could have been affected upon directives from the newly-constituted Pakistan government.
Burney first hit the headlines for his role in getting Indian prisoner in Pakistan Kashmir Singh released from a jail and invited criticism in Pakistani for his role.
The move, Gangadharan explained, could be a reflection on Pakistan government’s unhappiness with the publicity that Burney got in connection with Kashmi Singh and Sarabjit Singh cases.
India has no apparent reason deport Burney, he added.
Details are awaited.
