Explosives seized in Nashik, 4 held

Nashik: Police on Wednesday seized 18 detonators, five gelatin sticks, a country-made pistol and two cartridges from a flat in Indira Nagar locality in Nashik and arrested four local youths in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, police seized the explosives and firearm from the Rajsarthi Society flat of one Wasim Syed, Acting Commissioner of Police Param Veer Singh told a press

conference where three of the four arrested were produced.

They are Wasim Jabbar Ali Sayyad (23), Joheb Gulam Sarbarkhan (22) and Phirojkhan Pathan alias Munna (24), all residents of Nashik.

The fourth arrested, who was not produced before the media, had been taken for interrogation, he said.

Two special teams of Crime Branch have been dispatched for investigations after interrogation of the arrested revealed that more persons are involved in the case.

Singh, however, said Wednesday's arrest and seizure of explosives have no connection with the Malegaon blasts.
