Mumbai: A military school in Nashik has admitted that the Bajrang Dal held a training camp in its campus, but denies it has anything to do with the Malegaon and Modasa blasts.
“A few years back we had given out the campus for a 10-day camp conducted by the Bajrang Dal. The ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad of Mumbai Police) has been here and conducted an enquiry,” said Satish Salfekar, chairperson of the Bhonsale Military School.
“They were satisfied with our record and did not come back again,” said Salfekar.
The ATS is believed to have questioned two former defence services officers for their suspected links with the Hindu activists arrested for the blasts in September. Both these former officers were associated with the Bhonsale Military School.
Ramesh Upadhyay is currently the political head of an organisation called Abhinav Bharat. He could not be contacted but his relative R C Upadhyay told CNN-IBN that Ramesh had been “picked up” by the ATS three days back.
P B Kulkarni, the second former defence officer, on Tuesday denied that the ATS had contacted him. "I have no contact with them and do not agree to the methods used in Malegaon. I am completely away from this. The police and the Government did not contact me. We are neither right nor left wing, but we are nationalist," said Kulkarni, who is a former Territorial Army officer.
"During the summer courses a lot of students come for training. This includes Muslim and the Christian students. There are 10-15 Muslim boys. We do not believe in Bajrang Dal for they have different philosophy and we have different philosophy," he said.
A Nasik court on Monday granted permission to the ATS to conduct narco-analysis on sadhvi (female ascetic) Pragya Singh Thakur, who was arrested on October 24 along with Shivanarayan Singh and Shyam Bhavar Lal in connection with Malegaon blast in which five people were killed and several others injured.
She was arrested after investigations revealed that the motorcycle used in the Malegaon blast was registered in her name.
Police sources said they moved the court after she and her two associates kept changing their statements during interrogation.
