Eye surgeon turns lensman, shoots Myanmar temples

New Delhi: Perfectly photographed images of the temples in Myanmar and Cambodia, all shot with a camera as professional as the Canon 5D Mark2 - the only distinguishing feature: these are shot by a full time practising eye surgeon.

But photography is something that has been with Dr Navin Sakhuja as long as his practise in medicine and for someone who has been an eye surgeon for decades, more than half the battle in photography is won for having a steady hand and an eye for detail.

Having exhibited his works in the past, Dr Sakhuja's latest show titled In Search of a Greater God reflects his love for Buddha.

"There's something about Buddha's face and demeanour, there is so much beauty to it. I don't know what drives me to shoot it," says he.

Interestingly, most of Dr Sakhuja's favourite photographers have been his patients.

"Steve McCurry has been to me as a patient, I have the Afghan girl photograph autographed. Then there is Richard Avedon, one of my favourites in fashion and of course Ansel Adams in landscapes," says he.

For something that makes for good drawing room art, his current works range between Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 and are on show at the Alliance Francaise till September 5.
