New Delhi: What Andhra Pradesh’s former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu dreamt about, India’s most flamboyant CEO Vijay Mallya wants to turn into reality.
The ‘King of Good Times’ is keen on repeating Monte Carlo's success as an F1 destination in Delhi.
“When I follow something, I make sure I get it done. Delhi needs one F1 track,” said Mallya.
In fact so serious is the Chairman of the Kingfisher Group about his dream that an international track designer is expected to visit the Capital to find an appropriate location.
Mallya has even managed to win over Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit who has welcomed the idea of a Monaco-style street race.
The racing track in Monaco runs through the city and Mallya says the Rajpath-India Gate stretch would be ideal for an F1 style street race.
“We will submit two proposals - one for a new track and other for a street race. Rajpath, India gate and Vigyan Bhawan is a superb stretch,” said Mallya.
Money is also not a problem for Mallya who just last week struck a partnership with the Panasonic Toyota F1 racing team.
He contends that if Malaysia could earn $100 million from just one F1 Grand Prix, why should India lag behind.
But while Mallya might go on dreaming of cars racing on Rajpath, security agencies may feel otherwise and it may take more than numbers to convince the government to step on the gas.
