Cops look for techie terrorist who sent mails

Mumbai: The Indian Mujahideen terror mails have sent investigators on a wild goose chase from Kenneth Haywood to Khalsa College and now to Chembur in Mumbai.

The only common factor between the e-mails however could perhaps could be Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer. Investigators believe he is the tech brain behind the five terror e-mails that have been sent so far.

Maharashtra ATS Chief, Hemant Karkare said, "The name Tauqeer cropped up during investigations. He was on a wanted list and suspects' list."

Tauqeer was a resident of Naya Nagar in Meera Road, Mumbai but police claim he has been absconding since 2001.

He has worked in three software companies including a direct sales agency of a major company between 1996-1998.

Statements from his employers to the ATS reveal that Tauqeer was technically sound despite a lack of formal training.

His last resignation letter to his employer read: "Please relieve me of all duties with immediate effect because I want to concentrate on religious activities."

Investigators say Tauqeer escaped when SIMI top honchos Safdar Nagori and others were arrested in March this year.

Most of Tauqeer's associates are now in police custody and the police of four states are now united in their efforts to track down this alleged terror mastermind behind the e-mails.
