New Delhi: Dr Atkins, Zone, Sugar busters, South beach: the list is endless when it comes to fad diets. So are they merely fashionable or do they really work?
Since Dr Atkins advises to say no to carbohydrates and sugar, it means that means you need to start counting carbs but that is not an easy task, especially in India.
The south beach diet is based on foods with a low glycemic index but again, you need a chart that you can constantly refer to.
And to ace the Zone diet, you need to stick to a ratio of 40:30:30 for carbohydrates, proteins and fats in your daily diet.
There are other diets like the cabbage soup diet, or an all fruit and milk diet, or simply fasting. But the question is, can you do this in the long run? The answer actually lies in portion control.
“Portion control means no food is good or bad. Moderation is the key. You can eat just about anything you like. There are certain foods that are not good for you but that does not mean that they are taboo as long as you can control the intake,” says a nutritionist, Ishi Khosla.
So, next time you decide to go on a diet, sift the fact from the fad. A balanced diet and regular exercise are far more effective in chasing those weight blues away.
