New Delhi: These are indeed heady days for Makhdoom Amin Fahim, the man who turned down Pervez Musharraf's offer to make him prime minister. Now, Fahim — who is the Vice Chairman of the PPP — awaits the green signal from Zardari House..
Fahim's loyalty to the Bhutto family has triumphed but not without hiccups. Late prime minister Benazir Bhutto made him contest against Musharraf last year and predictably, he lost.
Then after Benazir was laid to rest, Fahim's hopes revived.
However, then Zardari had second thoughts and hinted he was the better candidate, but given the mood in the party, clearly wiser counsel prevailed. Sources have told CNN-IBN that Fahim looks most likely to be anointed Prime Minister.
"I could have been the prime minister, which is the first and last dream of any politician in the parliamentary democracy, but loyalty is more important for me than the prime ministership," Fahim has said, however.
Fahim is popular within the party, but the calculation is he won't rock the boat either for Zardari or for the heir apparent, Bilawal Bhutto.
