Fake Sting Row: Live India banned for a month

New Delhi: Live India, the local news channel that came under fire for a botched up sting operation, has been banned for a month.

The move comes in the wake of the story against Delhi government schoolteacher Uma Khurana alleged to have been running a sex racket.

An inter-ministerial panel formed to look into the issue found the channel guilty of violating programme code under Cable TV Network Act.

The channel went off air from midnight of September 20.

Earlier, the channel received a show cause notice on the same charges. Live India had submitted a detailed reply to the notice stating that the reporter had misled the channel regarding the sting operation.

Live India is the first news channel to be banned in India. Earlier, the I&B Ministry had banned entertainment channels AXN and FTV for vulgar content.
