Mumbai: A 19-year-old engineering student's life met a tragic end in Mumbai. His suicide note names two seniors who allegedly ragged him. Engineering student Nitin Padalkar, unable to handle the stress and anguish of being ragged in college, allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Kalyan near Mumbai on May 10.
A suicide note recovered along with his body, says, "It has become difficult for me to live due to two people in my college. Both have badly harassed me mentally. Both should be given maximum punishment. Please take care of yourself, mummy, papa. Your Nitin is with you. Please give better education to sister Nisha."
The son of a daily-wage labourer, Nitin had scored over 80 per cent marks in his 10th and 12th exams and was in the second year of Electronics and Telecommunication. He wanted to become an engineer and lift his family out of poverty.
"My son had told us about the harassment. The culprits should be punished," said Nitin's father. "He was a top ranker till his tenth class. He worked hard to get good grades," Nitin's neighbour said.
A case of accidental death has been registered. The two students named in the suicide note and the college administration will be questioned to find out what drove Nitin Padalkar to take the drastic step.
