THRISSUR: A family of five, including two children, committed suicide at Mattampuram here on Thursday.
Devassy, 65, from Vadakkanchery, Palakkad, his wife Elsie, daughter-in-law Mini,35, and grandchildren Aneesha and Albin, were found dead by the neighbours.
Only Shibu, son of Devassi, who was rushed to the hospital by the neighbours has survived the suicide attempt. His condition is critical. Financial problems are believed to be the reason behind the suicide. According to neighbours, Devassy had migrated to Thrissur almost 25 years back.
He was living on rent and working as a tapper. He has been living in Mattampuram for the past three years. The landlord said Devassy was visibly upset over being unable to pay the rent. The police said that the post-mortem examination will be conducted on Friday.
