Thrissur: The Kerala High Court has come to the aid of a mother whose daughter died in the UK more than two months ago.
Lilly Francis wanted to bring home her daughter Mini's body for burial but Mini's husband was against it. But the Kerala HC has now ordered that the body be brought back.
It has even told the Indian High Commission in UK to assist the family in the matter.
Though Lilly and her family were told that Mini died after an infection, they suspect foul play.
“She (Mini) told me that she can't phone as her husband records it. She said she will send letters. There was fight over money between them. I asked her not to send money home anymore. She used to cry over her inability to send me money,” said Lilly Francis, as her eyes welled up with tears.
Mini's brother, M P Jose said, “Her husband said the papers required to send her body to India are not ready. When we came to know that he tried to cremate her body there to spoil evidences, we approached the High court. She was mentally harassed by him.”
Mini was a nurse at one of the leading hospitals in Salisbury. She married Angelo in October 2007 and had taken him abroad with her.
Angelo even got a job as a technician in the same hospital. But things reportedly turned sour between the couple about a year ago. Lilly's family suspects that Angelo might have killed Mini to claim compensation.
Now Mini’s family just wants her body brought back so that her final rites can be carried out. The fight for justice for Mini can perhaps wait until then.
