Chennai: He calls it a small tribute from a humble fan. Kavin Karthik, an engineering graduate in Chennai has come out with a documentary on South Indian superstar Rajinikanth titled Thalaivar or leader. It's a simple narrative on the actor's life, spiced up with his public speeches and film clippings.
"We're not part of the film industry. We're just normal fans of his. We wanted to do something for our Thalaivar, that's why we started doing this," says Karthik.
So what does the documentary have in store for Rajini fans?
Karthik says, "We have talked about his younger years, his films, the records he's created, his fans, his charitable activites, why he should come to politics and what's the secret of his success."
But Karthik is more excited about his personal meeting with Rajinikanth than his documentary, especially when Rajinikanth came in person to release the DVD of his documentary.
"This was the first time we have ever met Rajinikanth and we were very happy about it. He praised us a lot and he said 'you're showing my own scenes to me?' There's nothing more than this that a fan like me could wish for," says Karthik.
And like any other fan, Karthik is waiting for the big day - when Rajini enters politics.
"As a fan I really think he should come into politics. But whether he comes into politics or not, we will still be his fans. There's no other identity that we are as proud of either," says he.
Be it a book or a DVD, there are always takers for anything with Rajinikanth's name on it. So until Sulthan and Endiran release, this documentary is something for fans to look forward to.
