Srinagar: This is for the first time National Conference stalwart Farooq Abdullah is contesting from urban constituencies Sonwar and Hazratbal. He abdicated the rural Ganderbal seat for his son Omar Abdullah.
But it won't be a cakewalk for him at Hazratbal for PDP and Congress candidates are breathing down his neck.
A confident PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti said, "Srinagar is the heart of Jammu and Kashmir and we feel after seeing their enthusiasm that people have decided to empowered Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for a full six years to continue the agenda that he was not able to carry through. We will get the maximum number of seats."
Though Farooq Abdullah connects very well with people, of late many feel he has lost the sting. What may work against Abdullah are his flip-flops - be it on the Amarnath agitation, holding of elections or the recent off the cuff remarks of "bombing Pakistan out of the world"
But the chief ministerial candidate for National Conference is confident.
"We are not like Congress. I say we will win by the grace of God and will of the people," he stated.
However, his main opponent from PDP, Asiya Naqqash too is confident of a win, saying, "For me, I am just contesting elections. Who is before me isn't what really matters."
Srinagar is the last battleground that has seen Kashmir's two most prominent families come out in full force. Now whoever claims Srinagar will be in a contention to form the new government.
