New Delhi: A fashion runway looks glamorous and dazzling, but behind the scenes all is not well.

A few members of the Fashion Design Council of India, led by designer Anju Modi have moved the Delhi High Court against alleged ill-treatment by the top brass.

Modi accused the FDCI's Executive Director. Sumeet Nair, of favouring some designers and blocking the transparent functioning of the body.

“He is misleading the designers and innocent people in some areas, where he is taking advantage of them,” Modi alleged.

Modi also challenged the proposed move by the Council to drop non-performing members from the Board.

“He (Nair) wants these amendments to be passed by force so that they can be implemented and they can throw out the people and can snuff out any voice which is raised,” she said.

The problems erupted when Anju Modi, along with Jatin Kochar, Niki Mahajan, Karuna Khaitan and Bobby Grover claimed that they were kept in the dark about the selections for the prestigious Tranoi fair in Paris.

“Firstly, he (Nair) never informed the Board that he's going to Paris to tie up with this prestigious fair and when he came back, he kept the information to himself and his favourite people,” Modi insisted.

The fashion fraternity, however, is divided its its response.

“I don't think you can point fingers at other people when your collections are weak,” said designer Rohit Gandhi.

“The fact is that many of the designers were already taking part in the Tranoi, so there's no use sending those designers who are there year after year,” explained fashion merchandiser Sunil Sethi.

For now, it is a case of wait and watch till the next court hearing on July 7.
