Mumbai: The Mumbai Police will ask the Maharashtra government to refer the case of attempt to murder BJP leader Pramod Mahajan to a fast track court.

Police officials believe it's an "an open and shut case" and will make a request to the state government for a speedy trial after a chargesheet is filed in court.

The state government recently introduced fast-track courts for speedy trials, but only for important cases. The Best Bakery case and rape case involving Constable Sunil More are among the cases heard by fast-track courts in Mumbai. Police believe the attack on Mahajan is an important case.

The accused, Pravin Mahajan surrendered to police and has allegedly confessed that he attacked his elder brother. Police officials are confident said because of the confession and the evidence the trial can be completed quickly.
