Father, three others held for honour killing

Karnal: Four people have been arrested along with the father Om Prakash who strangled his pregnant daughter and her lover and put their bodies on display for their villagers in Ballah, Karnal.

The Karnal police arrested the four people under Sections 492, 364, 302, 201, 316 and 120 B of Indian Penal Code. They were produced before the Judicial Magistrate who remanded all the accused to 14 days judicial custody.

It is the first arrest in the case in which police have registered cases against 30 people including neighbours and relatives of the dead girl.

The victims, Sunita and Jasbir Singh were from the same village and were in love since childhood, something considered to be a sin in some parts of Haryana, because people from the same village are considered siblings.

But the two of them secretly continued their affair even after Sunita got married.

Last year Sunita divorced her husband and started living with Jasbir.

The girl's family carried out the gruesome crime after they learnt that Sunita was pregnant.

Her family expressed no regret and backed by applauding villagers, marched to the local police station to report the crime.

Sunita's mother Roshni Devi, too, did not express any regrets over the killing of her daughter and claimed that she is happy they did it.

In a chilling confession, the mother said that she and her family strangled her six-month pregnant daughter, Sunita, and her lover to death on Friday.
