Mumbai: British tabloids have accused the father of Slumdog Millionare child actor Rubina Ali of allegedly trying to sell her off. The tabloids claim to have done a sting operation against the father. But the family denies all the charges.
There are visuals from the website of the British tabloid News of the World of Rubina's father and an uncle trying put up Rubina for adoption to the tabloid's undercover reporters posing as a wealthy family from Saudi Arabia.
The tabloid claims that Rubina's father Rafiq Qureshi was asking for a whopping sum of Rs 20 million. However, Rafiq has denied the cahrges.
"It was just a photo session, I wouldn't sell my daughter for Rs 10 crores," said Rafiq.
"He can't do such a thing," claims Rubina.
The family though ecstatic about their daughter's Oscar streak seems to be caught up in not just media attention, but also finds itself in the thick of family squabbles.
Slumdog's success got Rubina into the media glare, but whether it's getting her a better life is questionable. It led to a slanging match between her father and her biological mother who now claims Rubina's future is in danger if she remains with Rafiq.
"I wanted to send her away to hostel so her current family does not trouble her," said Rubina's biological mother Khushee.
