Billboards will help catch criminals

CNN

Indianapolis: The faces of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation's most wanted are posted in post offices across that country. However, now the FBI is taking the concept to a different level, quite literally.

The billboards are something that catches the attention of hundreds of thousands of driver’s everyday. And now the FBI hopes billboards will help them catch criminals.

The FBI claims that this will be just one more tool to combat violent crime in this city.

Clear channel outdoors will provide digital billboards for 20 cities to post the pictures of the FBI’s most wanted free of cost to the agency. The boards will work much like amber alerts. FBI Assistant Special Agent, Thomas Gancarz says that they plan to work with local agencies to help catch violent criminals.

"When we deem a case that’s of importance or someone needs to be apprehended we will work with those agencies and insure the pictures are placed on the billboard,” says FBI officer.

The billboards were tested in Philadelphia where they helped police catch a man who murdered a police officer. The Philadelphia police dept called the FBI and he was caught shortly thereafter.

The FBI believes that this tool is likely to make Indianapolis a safer city.
