FDI will ruin farmers; PM's reforms are anti-people: Nitish Kumar

Prabhakar Kumar, , CNN-IBN | Updated Sep 24, 2012 at 12:15pm IST

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN, slammed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for pushing through anti-people measures and claimed that the Prime Minister is more worried about salvaging his image.

Here is an excerpt of the interview:

CNN-IBN: Has the JD(U) or you as a leader, have you changed your stand after the PM made his speech?

Nitish Kumar: He (Manmohan Singh) has not impressed us. We are of the firm opinion that FDI in retail is going to ruin the farmers. They will dispossess the small retailers from the business. It will create huge unemployment. We are not opposed to foreign investment in the country; if it is in infrastructure it's most welcome.

He has to push through certain anti-people measures. As far as the policies are concerned, we don't agree to these policies. We are opposed to it. We will oppose it.

People of India are not going to India are not going to accept this kind of economics. Now he has to push through some anti-people measures.

He is more interested in satisfying the desires of the forces who are opposed to the interests of masses. Some foreign magazine has criticised him. So, he is busy preparing his own image.
