Noida: It’s a tough night for the guards at Sector 47 Golf Residency in Noida. Forty-eight hours after multiple crimes rocked the Delhi suburb, they are on high alert. But even they know that beyond the wall they are guarding, the night of horror could return.
“Beyond the boundary wall it’s very unsafe. There are all sorts of people out there. Reports of theft and crime are very regular,” one of the security guards said.
Pockets like Sector 47 have failed to give Noida a sense of security.
Residents in these colonies do not often realise that after all Noida is just a corner of the crime-infested Western Uttar Pradesh.
After the recent incidents, it’s the fear of the unknown that’s haunting the streets of this town.
CNN-IBN talked to two youngsters returning from a party. Staying out late is a risk they understand very well.
“Until something happens to us we will not learn, but once we get in trouble we will never forget. Touchwood so far nothing has happened so far,” one of the youngsters said.
We took a ride with Sub-Inspector Rakesh Sisodia and his men to understand how Noida police is tackling the problem.
“This area is particularly sensitive since people from factory come here at all times of the day,” Sisodia warns.
And giving the cops company are the chowkidars. Armed with a torch and a lathi, chowkidars keep vigil in the densely populated pockets.
“As long as I am here nothing can happen,” he says.
A little overstated confidence, perhaps. Except for a few islands of security, vast parts of Noida still don’t have proper street lighting. Noida by the night remains an area of darkness.
