New Delhi: FIFA on Monday released a statement revealing that the executive committee of the game's global body will meet in December to discuss recent events during last week'sWorld Cup qualifying play-offs.
The play-offs in Europe were dominated by the controversy caused by Thierry Henry's handball in the run-up to France's decisive goal in the second leg of the play-off with the Republic of Ireland in Paris.
The Football Association of Ireland demanded that the game be replayed, even though this is impossible under current FIFA regulations.
The meeting will discuss refereeing issues and the irregular patterns that were seen in some betting markets during the play-offs.
The statement reads:
"Due to recent events in the world of football, namely incidents at the play-offs for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, match control (refereeing) and irregularities in the football betting market, the FIFA President has called an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee.
"The extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee will take place in Cape Town on 2 December 2009, starting at 15.00."
