Vadodara: Films based on Godhra riots were not allowed to reach theatres in Gujarat. However, a film that focuses on Gujarat politics is being eagerly awaited all over the state.
Gujarat No Nath currently being shot in Ahmedabad is based on Chief Minister Narendra Modi's life. It casts a Modi look-alike actor called Akhilendra Mishra who plays the ambitious Chief Minister in the film.
"I'm playing a CM, a dream CM who has development on top of his mind,” said Akhilendra Mishra, Actor.
If that doesn't ring a bell and makes you think about the Gujarat Chief Minister's post-Godhra makeover, then the protagonist's Modi-looks should. Even the theme song Aapnu Gujarat, Aagvu Gujarat is a slogan coined by none other than the Gujarat CM himself.
The director, however insists that the film has nothing to do with the Modi and the resemblences are "purely coincidental."
"I won't say the film is based on Narendra Modi. But yes, I've tried to show through the film what a Chief Minister should be like,” said Ajinsinh Jhala, Director.
Unlike Parzania, this is one film, which distributors and cinema owners will gladly screen throughout Gujarat. Obviously, its commercial as well as political values are immense. On the eve of elections in the state, a film on Narendra Modi is unlikely to flop.
If Mishra is the CM with the vision then Shakti Kapoor is the chosen one to play the villain, the leader of the Opposition. The money to finance this film is coming from producer Ranmal Ahir—a Surat-based builder who is a known Modi supporter. With assembly elections in Gujarat scheduled for November, this movie hitting theatres in August is bound to add to the pre-poll heat.
