Thiruvananthapuram: Southern superstar Mamootty dons a new role as an NSG commando in the Malayalam movie Mission 90 Days.
The film tells the story of the commando operation to nab the conspirators behind Rajiv Gandhi's assassination - Sivarasan and Subha.
But the movie, directed by former commando Major Ravi, has come in for a lot of flak because in it, Ravi suggests it was a delay on Special Investigation Team chief Karthikeyan's part, which ended in the mission's failure.
“Even after so many high officials were there, above all of them there was this one man, the SIT chief who had to give this order. But then he was not there on the spot and he came next day only. So next day means one night is over which means the surprise element was lost for the commandos. That’s what I had picturised,” said Major Ravi.
Major Ravi was himself heading the NSG unit that carried out the operation in 1991. He says the movie is based on his experiences though Karthikeyan refutes Ravi's claims.
“This is all rubbish. Ravi is doing it just for publicity for his film. I was there in ground and I had conducted the operation,” said Karthikeyan.
A publicity gimmick or not, Major Ravi's Mission 90 Days seems all set to take the box office by storm and Ravi is now planning to make movies on the IC-814 hijacking and the Kargil war.
