Filmi Fiscal: The hits and the pits

Rohit Khilnani, CNN-IBN

Mumbai: There are films and then there is filmy business. So, how much moolah did last week’s films rake in? On Filmi Fiscal, we tell you the state of the films that hit the silver screen last week.

Two films released at the box office last week: director Meghna Gulzar’s Just Married and Milan Luthria's Hattrick.

Just Married begins where most Bollywood films end – marriage. The film is about two strangers, barely on the fringes of familiarity but married to each other and yet are outsiders on their honeymoon.

Actors Fardeen Khan and Esha Deol do not have any chemistry and that becomes the biggest strength of the film.

This film opened only between 15 and 20 per cent at the box office. The two actors are definitely not crowd pullers nor is Meghna Gulzar and with the Cricket World Cup on, it was not the best time to release a film.

KNOTTY AFFAIR: The Fardeen Khan-Esha Deol starrer got a poor opening at the box office.

The other release of the week is Hattrick. The film that tried to cash in on the World Cup fever fell flat at the box office just like the India vs Bangladesh match.

The film opened between 10 and 15 per cent and one can blame the poor performance of the film on the stale idea, bad direction, and the World Cup fever.

CLEAN BOWLED: Milan Luthria's much-talked about film didn’t fare up to the mark.

So, now it’s time to take look at what critics had to say about Just Married and Hattrick.

And here’s a look at what’s hit and what’s not on our film-o-meter.

Sarhad Paar is a flop. Last week we told you that this film will soon be out of cinema halls and that’s exactly what happened. Are you shocked? Well, no one is.

Red: flop

Water: flop

1971: flop
