Filmy Fiscal: Hollywood shines, Bollywood bombs

Rohit Khilnani, CNN-IBN

Mumbai: It is the start of the week and that’s the perfect time to talk about the latest box office figures.

While for Hollywood, it has been a magical week at the box office, there is no good news from Bollywood.

Starting with some good news, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth installment of the Harry Potter series got a bumper opening not only in India but worldwide.

In its first weekend the film has collected $ 330 million worldwideand in India, the film has already collected $ 93.5 million making it the third highest Hollywood opener in India.

How come, you ask? Harry’s magic has been on for a while now. The film had an opening of 93.5-95 to 100 per cent. And the magic continues.

However, there is no good news from Bollywood. Not that anyone had great expectations from Naqaab. Abbas-Mustan’s shocking thriller opened at 40 per cent at the box office. The reason for its poor opening was that there was nothing attractive about it.
