Filmy Fiscal: 3 new flicks but box office stays cold

Mumbai: With Dhol, Loins of Punjab Presents and Manorama Six Feet Under, this week was more of quantity and less of quality.

The film that got the highest opening this week was Priyadarshan’s Dhol at just 40 per cent.

Dhol didn’t make any noise at the box office because Priyadarshan’s off-late attempts to try hard to make people laugh have all failed.

Next in line is NRI flick Loins of Punjab Presents and though we heard only good things about this one from the few people who saw it, it got a poor opening at 10 percent. Why? No face value and low-key publicity.

The opening for Manorama Six Feet Under was also rather six feet under: just between 5 to 10 per cent probably because it was an off-beat theme and not much was expected from it.

Here’s how the critics rated the newly released flicks:

Dhol

CNN-IBN: 1 / 5

Sunday Mid Day: 1 / 5

DNA: 1 / 5

HT: 0 / 5

Loins of Punjab Presents

CNN-IBN: 3 / 5

Sunday Mid Day: 3 / 5

DNA: 3 / 5

HT: 4 / 5

Manorama Six Feet Under

CNN IBN: 2 / 5

Sunday Mid Day: 2 / 5

HT: 3 / 5

And what does the Film-o-meter say this week? While the Bobby Deol-starrer Nanhe Jaisalmer is a flop, the fate is no different for the second release Aggar.
