Thiruvananthapuram: The Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram was India's first IT park, but today the techies have stopped coding and started composing.

What may look like a brainstorming session in some IT firm is actually a group of techies doing something that does not involve plans for some new software. Instead, these professionals from leading IT companies at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram are composing the tunes for a music album. They call it the Voice of the Park.

“We are labelled as geeks. We wanted to change that picture. We wanted to show the actual stuff we do other than IT,” says a techie from US Tech Global Arun K Narayanan.

The album shot in and around the Technopark will have seven tracks in Malayalam, English, Tamil and Hindi. While the lead singers of the album work at Infosys, the actors are from US Technology and the support team has been drawn from half a dozen other IT giants.

“What’s so special about this album is that IT companies are known to be competitive and not move in a collaborative fashion. What we have done here is to bring in the collaborative nature of all companies to create one product,” explains US Tech Global’s Anand Venkitaraman.

For the techies, working on the album is also a perfect way to unwind.

“It gives us an opportunity to bring out our creative side,” says Infosys employee Neelima Viswanathan.

Voice of the Park might perhaps be a small attempt at being creative but undoubtedly its sending out a strong signal: Even in this fiercely competitive field of Information Technology, there is more to life than just computers and big money.
