Finnish woman raped, assaulted in Mumbai

Mumbai: A 36-year-old Finnish national who was brutally assaulted and raped around the Parikshit Hill area of Mumbai on December 17 is now recuperating in city's Nanavati Hospital.

The police have not been able to find any leads in the case so far.

According to her, she had walked out of a bar called Indulge alone around 1 am that night. While she was waiting for an auto-rickshaw, a car stopped by her side and the driver offered her a lift.

She says, there were at least two to three people in the vehicle and they forcibly took her to an isolated spot, where she was physically assaulted and allegedly raped.

“We heard a lady crying for help. She was saying, 'Somebody wants to kill me. Please help me. Please call police.' Her clothes were in a terrible condition and she had been hurt on her face and legs,” says a local.

The victim who is admitted in ICU number two of Nanavati Hospital is still in a state of shock and trauma. She has been staying in the city for the last two years with her husband and two kids.

The victim did not want to have the incident reported to the police, and perhaps that is why she chose to get admitted in a hospital that was more than 40 km from her residence.

However, the hospital authorities informed the police as soon as they found out. The case was registered two days after the incident.

“She was raped that night and deserted. Nobody has been arrested in this case so far,” says an unnamed police officer.

The fact that the victim was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, only makes the case more complicated. But the victim has reportedly told the police that she can identify the driver of the car.
