Surat: The fire that broke out at Indian Oil Corporation's Hazira Depot on Saturday is still raging on and four people have been reportedly missing. Approximately 100 lakh litres of petrol has been lost till now. More than 150 fire tenders from Surat and nearby cities have been fighting the blaze.
No casualties have been reported so far in the fire at the IOC facility which has nine storage tanks, five of petrol and four of diesel. Meanwhile all the staff members have been shifted out.
The Hazira terminal includes a deep water multi-cargo port, situated 25 km from Surat. A high level team has been constituted to look into the cause of the fire. This is the second major fire at the IOC storage depot since 2009.
