Mumbai: A fire broke out in a merchant vessel on Sunday afternoon off the Mumbai coast. The ship, MV Amsterdam Bridge, was going to Colombo from Mumbai and was allegedly carrying hazardous cargo.

Two Coast Guard ships, ICGS Samudra Prahari and ICGS Subhadra Kumari Chouhan have been sent to the spot and were monitoring the situation.

Coast Guard officials suspect that the fire erupted in the engine room of the vessel but said they had no information about the extent of damage.

The ship is right now at the outer anchorage off the Mumbai coast.
