Fire breaks out in Navi Mumbai's steel market

New Delhi: A major fire broke out in the Kalamboli steel market in Navi Mumbai on Monday morning.

The chemicals stored there are making the blaze more difficult to control. However no casualties have been reported so far.

“Forty-five blasts occurred in quick succession due to the chemical barrels stored here. The second store has polymers, cotton and other materials stored in it,” says fire officer, Abhimanyu Gharat.

He adds, “No one has told us exactly what is stored here, so its difficult for us to even go in. The blasts are still happening.”

The fire broke out at 5 AM in the morning and destroyed two stores. The fire brigade has deployed 12 fire engines to control the fire.

Firefighters are finding it difficult to manage as 80 barrels of chemicals are stored in the store.

Goods like medicines, plastic granules and cloth rolls have been destroyed.
