New Delhi: The Delhi Police calls it a case of negligence, but in an incident that has again raised questions on the security of the country’s Prime Minister, Sanjay Kumar Singh, a commando posted outside the PM's office accidentally shot himelf while cleaning a senior’s revolver.
The revolver belongs to Head Constable Suraj Pal Singh, against whom a case has been registered.
“We have registered a case of negligence under section 337 of the IPC and the officer has been arrested,” PRO Delhi Police Rajan Bhagat said.
Sanjay was immediately brought to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital after the incident where doctors declared that he was out of danger.
“He was shot in the thigh and the bullet went through it but now he's fine,” Dr S K Sharma said.
But this is not the first time that question marks have been raised regarding security arrangements made for the Prime Minister.
On July 27, 2006, three youngsters drove up to the Prime Minister's residence just showing how easy it is to enter one of country's most secure places.
Then on November 1, 2006, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s motorcade nearly took the wrong route after the driver of the pilot vehicle took a wrong turn en route to Raj Bhawan in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Delhi Police has written this off as a case of negligence but all said and done a shot was fired approximately 100 metres from where the Prime Minister sits, and those responsible for it are none other than those also responsible for the security of the Prime Minister.
