First swine flu case in Thane; schools shut

Thane: A six-year-old girl from Thane has been admitted to a suburban hospital in Mumbai after she tested positive for swine flu, civic officials said on Monday.

Pranita Kulkarni, a student of A K Joshi English School, was admitted to Kasturba hospital on Sunday night after she showed flu like symptoms, they said adding her test reports later confirmed swine flu.

Following Kulkarni's report, all the educational institutes in the district have announced a week's closure, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has swung into action to take preventive measures against the viral infection.
