New Delhi: The family of 55-year-old Rambhai Vala still don't know if they will get to perform his last rights. He was among eight fishermen aboard the trawler Rita Sagar, which was captured by Pakistani marines in November 2011. A few days ago, they received news that he had died in a Karachi hospital in May.
"We have reconciled to the fact that he is dead, but we should be given custody of his body," Rambhai's wife Jahiben Vala said.
Rambhai had spoken to the family over the phone once soon after his capture. But since then, there has been no news. The Indian government is yet to officially confirm the news of his death to the family.
"We got to know through the media and others that he is dead there. I want my father back, dead or alive. They should send back his body at least," Rambhai's son Naresh Vala said.
Both the family and the Gujarat Fishermen's Association have sought the Centre's intervention. But so far to no avail.
