New Delhi: Five Members of Parliament (MPs), who are yet to make up their mind on the trust vote will hold the key to the Government’s fall or survival.
The MPs are aware that their power will expire after Tuesday and are therefore, now dictating terms.
The undecided MPs are the ones who would ultimately matter. If this trust vote is going to swing either way, a lot will depend on them.
And courting them actively are both sides, the Government and the Opposition. Three of the MPs are those who are Independents, men without party loyalties. For them it is a one-time deal. They know they won't be in demand after Tuesday.
"Nobody cares for us otherwise. They remember us, when they have some trouble,” says Independent MP from Manipur, Mani Cherenemei.
Meanwhile, Independent MP from Assam Sansuma Biswamuthiary is not traceable. Yet another MP, Thupstan Chhewang, MP from Ladakh has left Delhi and will return hours before the vote.
As for the others, it seems that it suits firebrand Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee to be equidistant from UPA and NDA at this point of time. It looks that she would like to abstain, though she has not revealed her cards just now.
One MNF MP from Mizoram has also played hide and seek, knowing fully well that he's in the best position to bargain at the moment. Most of these MPs know they can make hay only while the sun shines.
