Karachi: Five people were killed and two others injured in separate incidents of firing in different parts of Pakistan's financial capital Karachi on Thursday.

The firing started in different parts of the city after Awami National Party leader Saeed Ahmed Khan was shot dead by unknown assailants.

"Five people had been killed and two injured in incidents of aerial firing in different parts of the city," Geo news reported.

The ANP which represents the Pashtun speaking population in the city has announced a three-day mourning.

Police officials said that not all the five persons killed were related to the killing of the ANP leader.

"At least two of the people found dead were drug addicts," one official said.

Pakistan's financial hub saw around 350 people killed in ethnic and sectarian violence last year in July and August forcing the government to give additional powers to the para-military rangers and start targeted operations in different parts of the city against criminal elements and those involved in the violence and target killings.
