Five-day inter-college chess tournament begins

VELLORE: The five-day inter- varsity (south zone) chess tournament was inaugurated at VIT on Wednesday by the DIG of police, Sakthivelu.

Six-member teams comprising boys and girls from 51 universities of the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Puducherry are participating in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Sakthivelu said that a game of  chess helped in gaining peace of mind.

He added that this was a great occasion for youngsters to play chess and by involving themselves in the game, they can calm their mind and thinking process.  He urged people to take up chess.

VIT chancellor G Viswanathan, vice president G V Sampath, vice chancellor V Raju among others were present on the occasion. Physical Education director Dr Victor Dhanraj welcomed the gathering.
