Shahbad (Haryana): Army and civil authorities have sought the aid of Mumbai fire force in rescuing a five-year-old boy, stuck in a 50-feet well in a Haryana village since Friday.
The child, Prince, fell into the deep, narrow pit left uncovered by labourers in Haldheri village on Friday evening while he was playing.
Along with the entire nation, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said that he is hopeful that the boy will be rescued soon.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhoopinder Singh Hooda who visited the spot, said heavy machinery was being brought from Mumbai in an Indian Air Force plane and a team of experts from the fire brigade was on its way to assist in the rescue operation.
"The administration is leaving no stone unturned to bring the child out safely, which is our first priority. We are even in touch with experts in London and Holland and have explained the situation to them. We are getting feedback from them as well," Hooda said.
Hooda was accompanied by Kurukshetra MP Navin Jindal, local MLA K L Sharma and state Agriculture Minister H S Chatha and briefed the officials regarding the operation.
Prince has been lying alone, clueless and desperate inside the dark ditch. He has been crying, making futile attempts to climb out, coping with insects and even managed to sleep.
A massive rescue operation is in progress to bring the child out. An Army Engineering Unit from Ambala is coordinating the rescue operation.
But, the walls of the pit are not stable and are giving in. A metallic shaft with two open ends has been constructed by the Army and will be sent down to rescue the child.
Rains are also hampering the rescue operations, though arrangements have been made so that no water can enter the pit or the tunnel.
Oxygen cylinders are being used so that Prince does not suffer from breathing problems. Thirteen cylinders of oxygen have been used so far.
Prince has been given regular supplies of biscuits, chocolates, glucose and drinking water.
A team of medical experts are also present at the site, who have said that the boy is fit and his health is not deteriorating.
Meanwhile, Kurukshetra sub-divisional magistrate SK Lohia said that every effort was being made to save the boy.
