Nasik: The situation in Nasik is expected to get worse. The Godavari is flowing 34-feet above the danger mark and the Meteorological department predicts more rain for the city already struggling to cope with rising waters.
Most of the bridges in the city are closed. But the floods in Nasik are not only affecting those alive but have also left the dead without a proper cremation.
Meanwhile, the administration says there cannot be any solution to this problem.
"These cremation grounds since long have been on the banks of the rivers. Hence, there cannot be any solution," Municipal Commissioner, Nasik Municipal Corporation, Vilas Thakur says.
But Navnath Khede, a shop- keeper who sells articles for the last rites has had to face tremendous losses. With his shop in Amar Dham, one of the main cremation centres in the city under 12-feet of water he has lost everything that he possessed.
"I have had to face tremendous losses close to about Rs 12 lakhs in the last four days alone," Navnath Khede says.
While Navnath is yet to come to terms with the losses his other worry is shifting those salvaged goods from his shop to safer locations.
"Due to the flood waters we have to shift all our goods which is a major problem. Moreover, there isn't too much business," Navnath adds.
