Jaisalmer: The floods continue to spell fury in India with Rajasthan under water for the third time in the last three years.
Parts of Rajasthan were submerged with water as railway embankments were even washed away, children forced out of inundated schools and the once dry rivers Leek and Luni in Jaisalmer revived with vengeance.
Koel Kanwar, a resident of Phulasar village in Jaisalmer said, “I barely escaped. The water rose at night. It was so scary.”
The rain spelled doom for the local singers of villages who had to run for cover to keep their instruments dry. These Langa singers are now re-scripting their songs of love to express grief.
Fakir Khan, a Langa singer in Phulasar village said, as the floods were ravaging their hamlets, they could only be helpless spectators watching their houses and belongings go down the drain.
Having endured 50 droughts in the last 60 years, the rains should herald cheer for the people of Rajasthan. However, forced out of their homes and having seen their houses and belongings drowned in the floods, the people of Rajasthan have turned fearful of the rains also.
