Mumbai: With Ganesh Chaturthi only a few days away, Ganesh idol makers are working day and night to meet deadlines.
Sadashiv Pawar, from Pen, a small town in Maharashtra is one among them. This year he will have to disappoint many customers with late delivery of idols. About 500 of his idols were damaged by the floods that has marooned thousands of people.
"I lost more than what I lost last year. The rains destroyed the house in which the idols were kept," a craftsman, Sadashiv Pawar said.
Pawar has suffered a loss of over Rs 60,000 more than the loss he suffered in the previous years. He and his craftsmen are now working hard to meet the orders of customers.
"It is nice when I make it myself. Buyers come from Pune, Nagpur, Nasik to buy the idols I make," another craftsman, Sadashiv Pawar says.
Meanwhile, the loss due to heavy rains has become a part of Pawar’s business. But what keeps him motivated is the appreciation he gets from buyers for making beautiful idols, which will bring prosperity to many homes this year.
