Click to play videoNew Delhi: Fog played spoil sport on the very first day of the new year leaving thousands of air travelers in the capital stranded at the airports. Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) were enforced at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi at 1700 hours IST due to heavy fog.
At the Delhi airport, officials said the RVR improved to 250 metres by 1700 hours IST but flight operations were affected due to fog. Authorities had already initiated Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) for flight operations since 2042 hours Sunday.
Twenty-one international flights and 15 domestic flights either landed or took of using the LVP. So far, 24 domestic and 12 international services were diverted since the intiation of LVP, the official said adding 11 domestic flights were rescheduled.
Sixteen domestic flights were cancelled, he added.
Measures Taken by DIAL to ease passenger congestion:
>Free park and ride facility setup near domestic airport
>Temporary cabins setup outside terminal 1B for additional passenger seating
>Additional seating & trolleys inside terminal building
>Additional food & beverage counters and 24x7 restaurant opened for passenger comfort.
